inheriting stats

i just had this foal born today, who was meant to be a color experiment.

however, his higher than expected stats intrigued me.
I was expecting something in the area of 59 total stats (his mother's + fathers divided by four, plus whatever else is taken into account with the recode).
instead he came out with 104! hmm.

i should have recorded his parent's exact stats when breeding them rather than just their totals, but alas. hindsight is 20/20.

it appears that the foal inherited an average of its parent's stats except in the int/end categories (which are the categories i'm feeding and treating them in, since they're endurance)

previous experiments i did have revealed that total foal stats are (mother stats + father's stats) divided by something between 3.01 and 3.8 but this one doesn't fit into what i expected at all.

i've owned both parents since they were less than 1 year old and they've been cared for and treated every day. i'm not sure what their showing history is since i don't really keep track that well.

any thoughts on what the stat inheritance formula might be? i'm curious about what other players think might be affecting them in the recode :)
