To Breed or Not To Breed

#24879 Posted on 2016-03-30 07:58:32

So I am chomping at the bit and very excited to breed my 1st round of Show Jumping Dutchies. They are all sitting at 19 years with 4 days left, so getting close to that time to breed for my first set. I do have one stallion that's a few years behind, but instead of locking everyone but him, I will be breeding him this round. I may lock everyone for the next breeding until he's almost retired as well or offer him for stud for a few more foals before he retires. Not sure yet.

Anyways... my schedule is looking to be hectic this weekend when the 19 years 1 day left would hit, so am considering breeding for babies today. Stats range from 362 to 456, so not sure if I'd see a huge stat gain between now and Saturday.

So, looking to other breeders to see what you'd do in this case? I of course could lock everyone over the weekend to prevent aging... But I want babehs lol.

I'd lock it until you can spend more time. Won't be long. I'd also lock everyone but that lagging stallion to get him caught up. But that's just me. I understand wanting foals.

I know the feeling all too well!!! I usually don't breed my horses but once, but now with all the new colors, and my new goal of breeding only heterozygous bays + blacks and chestnuts; I am finding myself breeding more and adding more store horses into my herds.

Kaioti - The lagging stallion is actually my highest stat horse. Locking the others of course would ensure him to be higher of course, but if O dont lock him I can provide him as a stud. So still not even sure. What to do. Lol.

Feathered - I breed twice right now so I have at least 20 horses. Otherwise Id gladly breed just once
