Appaloosa Genetics Question

#19983 Posted on 2016-03-16 09:53:50

Alright.. I'm pretty good with genetics... They are my favorite... so heres my question...

Why have I been seeing Appaloosas with Pinto markings? Granted, IRL, you can have Pintaloosas but that means they are no longer Appaloosas. As far as I know, Appaloosas do not carry pinto markings... So, why?

This is true. Appaloosa registries don't allow paint markings, as you have to crossbreed to attain them. (from what I know).

Doesn't bother me, though I wish the other breeds in the game would have more variety if you're allowing these markings on Appaloosas. Some colors and markings that are found in other breeds aren't shown in game.

I understand the art was tight though so I'm fine as is.

The 'splash' and "overo' patterns that you may have come across in the game are 'bugs'. The customizer doesnt even allow overo or splash when creating custom appys.

Waaay back in the 50s n 60s...when the ApHc and AQHA were still working out their registration rules.. Sometimes, 2 solid qhs were bred , that produced a 'crop out' foals with roaning and both appy and paint characteristics... Some of these horses actually became the foundation for the APHA... So thats where the pinto/paint patterns came in...
Nowadays..the horse has to be proven to have at least one purebred registered appy as parent and the other parent an only be registered qh , thoroughbred or arabian.

The last appy I owned looked like a paint/appy cross..lolz. But he had ALL the appy characteristics. He was white based with brown and black spots on his butt, he had the mottled skin, his face was varnish roan, he had the striped hooves and the white sclera but...he also had a brown 'breastplate' patch on his chest and a brown patch on his belly.....lolz.. His nae was 'Pogey"

Really? I honestly didn't know that. I also don't follow the registration rules for Appies too closely haha.

Fair enough. :p I didn't know they were bugs.

to clarify - windspun wasn't saying ALL the paint markings on the EV appies are bugs, only that the splash and overo are.

the sabino, roan, tobiano, overo, and rabicano ARE meant to be there (even if they aren't there in RL)
