What does locking do?

My first question is what does locking do?

And I see on horses it says you have to be level 30 to lock them? well someone just bought my horse yesterday that was only level 9 and was able to lock them?

You need to be level 30 to unlock the feature of having custom images... as for locking everyone can do that.

Lock your division, at the bottom of the division page.

Lock your account allows every aspect of ev to be paused for as long as you want.

So when you lock a division, you can't feed or show them and they don't age?

correct, they freeze in time until you unlock the division. Their happiness, food, water, hay doesn't decrease, you can't show them, train them or breed them, but they also do not age at all.

Locking is good for if you're running low on time and don't have time to care for your horses or if you don't have a stud/mare to breed to one of your horses, you can lock that horse until you can find a mate.

Account locking locks EVERYTHING including all of your horses. This is handy if you're going out of town for a vacation, or you just can't get on for a while (like studying for exams/internet issues/family/real life issues). You can't access anything while your account is locked, BUT none your horses will age, happyness/feed/water all stay the same AND your account deluxe won't count down either. :)

Please clarify on locking:
If I unlock a division to remove one horse and them relock
the division, do the horses age an entire day or just several minutes?

They stay the same as they were when you unlocked them several minutes ago, unless cron is run while you do this. Then, if cron has run while your horses were unlocked, they age for 1 day, their feed, happiness and other things are depleted as usual.
