I noticed that there were a couple of groups that were interested in trying to breed for rare coats, but have no way of telling exactly what color would be rare for any given breed. So what do you think of a system being created to show how many horses with that particular color of that certain breed exist in game?

I'd love this as a small percentage after revealing the genotype, it'd give another reason to reveal it imo. So the lower the percentage the rarer the colour, and say if you got 1% rarity, you'd just have to look up your genotype in the horse search to see if it was one of a kind.

I agree, and players that are breeding for rare coats would most likely have the genotype revealed anyway.

Seeing some stats would be nice, but for breeds with many different colours the % genotype idea wouldn't give useful information as there are too many possibilities. For example, there are over 46 million different possibility genotypes for mustangs => most of them will just have (0%).

Really? I didn't expect that there would be that much variation. So just sticking with exact numbers would probably be a better choice then a percentage?

Even so, it's still a basic gauge without being too revealing of genetic rarity, there has to be some challenge to getting that rare genotype, just as there's a challenge to get the lowest ns or highest conformation. It's more of a fun aspect than a serious value addition and it is interesting to know what percentage of horses might have x genotype, even if it's 1 in 46 million possibilities.

The point is, that for some breeds, many genotypes will just say 0%. It needs to be done on phenotype and colours/marking separately if you want the information to be of any use.

Not sure how necessary this is, since this information can be found using the horse search, either by selecting color and/or markings or by genotype.

Support.

It's more convenient than searching up the genetics and doing some math to figure out the percentage of rarity.

I know I’ve commented on this before but thinking about it now I don’t support the suggestion in its original form especially with how ever changing it would be and I can’t imagine the tax it would cause. Especially when the Random Horse in the activity feed had to be removed due to its script lagging out the server. The only viable way I could see it implemented is an offshoot of the statistics page and updated at cron. But I feel like this would really remove the challenge of discovering a rare genotype for zero work. If you take into account all the horses available there’s no real “rare” colour that exists due to colour breeders and custom horses/item changes. The same would go for the % on genotypes, unless there is a separate repeatable check, maybe at the vet, you can pay for to reveal the rarity for that day, since it won’t always stay the same.
