Breeding "Set Up"?

#13551 Posted on 2016-03-02 08:03:39

Ok folks, my Show Jumping Dutchies are hitting 15 and giving me the itch to breed. I'm not breeding right this second as it's too soon imo. However, with the pregnancy stage now, I'm curious what people are doing for their breeding plans now?

And does the 5 days of pregnancy still continue on (and the horse not pass on before having the foal) once the horse is retired? I usually breed at 20 days, 1 day left to age so need to figure out if that plan needs to go out the window.

So yes, spill all your little breeding tricks, tips, and secrets ;)

The game will wait for mares to foal if bred the day before retiring.

yep, like Arty said you can still breed the day before they turn twenty, and they'll give birth as 21 year olds.

the time you have to wait before breeding a mare again is still seven days, but now five of those are taken up with her being pregnant. so really, plans don't need to change much from the old EV :)

also, this is related to breeding per say, but since i've not seen it posted anywhere except as an answer on the forum: leaving the foals in the same division as their mothers means you don't have to care for them for (i think) 3 days

I think Abbey said something about leaving the foals with their mothers = not having to feed them for 5 days. :)

I am sticking with breeding my horses the day before they turn 21, but had a little problem with that in the very beginning. But, it's turned out for the best. :)

On new EV I breed my mares at age 19 (with 7 days til she turns 20) then again at 20 (with 7 days til she turns 21) but thats because I was afraid I'd miss a foal if Shes 21 while pregnant. But if its ok I might tweak my policy however a few missed stats on a foal probably isnt worth it to me!

Meaning, I bred the mares a little too soon, and then couldn't breed them again before they turned 21 years old. :P

But, I've made do with the foals, and their parents have since passed on.
