Q About Grey

okay, so on old EV grey horses would be either light grey, dapple grey, fleabitten grey, steel grey (and i think there was either a dark dapple grey or extensive fleabitten grey?)

however since the grey gene/colours have been changed, is there any way of knowing what sort of grey your horse will turn into/grey out into? are there dapple greys who will take longer to fade or steel greys who stay quite dark until they're older, or are the horses now just one 'flat' sort of white/light grey once they grey out? or is it just that some breeds grey to a different colour due to how their artwork is?

i do have a few greys atm (most aren't old enough to have really started greying out yet) and a few who are greying, but was just wondering as the ones I have that are greying out so far seem to be going light grey (apart from one who looks a bit dappled)

All my greys have been exactly the same as far as the greying process goes. I don't think there are flea-bitten, steel etc. If there were I'd definitely be aiming for a herd of steel greys :)

The final stage is the same for all horses, and occurs at the same age, however the different stages you get in between  can vary between breed and base colour. The steel grey tends to occur on darker base colours like black, while they're still greying out, and I think I've seen a dapple grey variant in one breed (arabians?). I don't think fleabitten grey is around anymore.

Fleabitten grey isn't here now, this horse was fleabitten grey when I made her.

ahh okay, thanks guys!

yeah, I know all grey horses will end up pretty much white/light grey (apart from fleabitten - but I can understand that would be hard to code in if it was something at random) but thought I would ask as I know we used to have different type of greys and in my own greying horses I do have a dapple grey TB while my greying Traks all seem to be more of a light/white grey as they're greying out.

Haycube and Create are my two greying Traks and both are a steel/light greyish sort of colour (think both were Buckskin? to start?) and for comparison, Enchanted Heir is my TB who seems to be more of a dapple grey but is a double cream dilute under the grey.

I wasn't sure if it was a genetic thing or just dependent on breed and how each breed greys out (as in some breeds look more dappley than others, some stay darker longer etc.)
