What happens to horses' tack when they die?

I have a number of oldish horses and a lot of high grade tack, expensive tack. If you assign tack to a horse, and then it dies from old age, do you lose the tack too?

Tack is taken off automatically and put into your inventory if a horse with tack assigned dies.
