The Story of Ruffian

Here at Hermes Stud, we had been contacted by our breeding partners at Sherman Oaks about a gorgeous black thoroughbred filly that had been recently acquired but who did not quite meet the breeding requirements at the time over there. Of course, immediately we went to check out the filly.

After quite a drive, we arrived and spoke to the owners asking to see this black filly they'd informed us about. After arriving at the fence to the paddock the foals were all playing in, it did not take long to spot the filly in question.

She was quite the pretty sight, a bright black filly, covered in white markings we found out were Frame Overo, and that was pretty much a deal maker. We're well known to be pretty partial to that marking in Thoroughbreds, after all, one of our greatest Thoroughbred mares was also born with that marking, the mighty Ima Diva.

A deal was made while watching the foals playing and we noticed that a chestnut colt with the same markings seemed to be a close friend of our new filly, and so we decided that later, when both had been racing for some years, we would breedΒ  Ruffian and Brushfire together.

Home we went, with our brand new filly.

Will she live up to the legendary Ima Diva's legacy and become the foundation of a new line herself? Only time will tell for young Ruffian!
