I am back and am lost

#99135 Posted on 2017-03-30 19:10:36

I came back from a big break and now I am a bit lost. Is there somewhere I can read up on all the updates? Or can someone tell me what has all changed?

Do we still breed at the same time? Are stats as important as confo? I'm confused. :) Please help. haha

Welcome back! I would go to the news to read all about some of the updates. News

Breeding is a tad different since the foals are not born immediately, there is gestation and cool down period. I not breeding right now so I don't know exactly how many days but I'm sure someone could tell you :)

It takes 5 days for the foal to be born and another 2 days before the mare can be bred again.

Neither is more important, some people breed for confo, others for stats. Also, welcome back!

So is their an age when it is 'too late' to breed a mare now?

You can't breed a horse past age 20, because they all retire by default at 21 now.

I'm not sure how long you've been gone, so I don't know what all is new for you, so a lot of what I reference below is what's new as of the recode, though you may have already dealt with some of it.

Timing for breedings is pretty much the same - I choose to breed the day before retirement (they retire at 21), and then the day before they turn 20 if I want a second foal. (And so on, going back a week at a time if I want more foals than that.)

Stallions now no longer have a "cool down" between breedings, whereas it used to be 2-3 days.

Mares can still be bred every 7 days. Foals are no longer born instantly, but instead the mare will be pregnant for 5 days, and then the foal will be born. After that, the mare has an additional 2 day cool-down before she can be bred again.

I'm still primarily a stat breeder, though I would say conformation is now more important than it used to be, purely because the system for inheriting it is less broken, making it a more viable goal.

If you breed for color/patterns, there are some new genetics. I know there's a helpful genetics guide pinned in one of the forums.

We have some new methods to earn stats, including showing itself. Horses that place in a show with at least five entrants have a chance to win stats. Training is another big stat earner. Horses are trained in an arena once per day, and after ten days of training they earn a stat boost. The higher the horse's grade, the better the boost.

If you have a horse that isn't doing well in shows, you can now also choose to place them in a riding school, which offers a way to make money and earn stats (though not as much as can be won in shows.) But it's a good alternative for horses that aren't money makers in the show ring. A horse can do both showing and schooling, as well, but only to a combined 10 of both. So 10 shows OR 10 school hours OR 5 shows and 5 school hours OR 7 shows and 3 school hours, etc.

As for showing, the grade system is a bit different than it used to be. Instead of just grades 1 through 5, we have Novice, Local, Regional, National, and International, and each of those have subcategories 1-5. (So Novice 1 is the lowest, and International 5 would be the absolute highest.) The grade your horses are in is determined solely by stats, so all horses show against horses of similar stat numbers. (If you have a 500 statted foal, it will start in "Local 4" rather than having to start in "Novice 1."

Those are kind of the biggest changes from the old pre-recode game that I can think of.

Welcome back!
