Who else is a crafter? I personally knit and am learning how to crochet because I love making my baby nieces fun things! So far I have made a blanket, "monster pants," a few hats, and some headbands. I also made them similar fleece tie blankets for Christmas. My next adventure is learn to crochet enough to make them slippers, hopefully "boat shoes"/"Sperries" for them to wear around in winter!

If you have pictures I'd love to see them too. It doesn't matter what exactly you make, anything that's homemade is awesome!!

Some pictures with my beautiful models..

OMG monster butt pants (the hats are super cute too)!!! That's the kind of stuff I and my friends would dump a lot of money buying for out kiddos.

I always envy people who can knit and crochet. As stupid as it sounds I realize I suck at counting. :(

lmao pay me enough and I might just get the motivation back! Kidding. But I thought about it for a while (offering stuff online) but trying to find a place to sell it that more than just friends would go to, spending the time doing it, and then having to ship it would be less than fun.

Also homemade monster pants can easily be like $40-90 but the total cost of materials for me, counting only what I used, was probably just a few dollars. The real cost was my time (knitting a few hours a day for probably 2-3 weeks). My sister in law had been talking about wanting them since she was pregnant but didn't want to pay it. Over a year later I had learned to knit and surprised my niece with them for Christmas. That was worth it. :)

I like to crochet. To practice I've probably made 20 scarves which are sitting in a bin. I've made a dog blanket & a blanket for my grown son. I crocheted a hat based on the monster Baragon from old Godzilla movies for a dear friend and I just recently crocheted 2 dresses for my Zombeiz baby zombie doll, Stella. I really love to crochet. It relaxes me.

Certainly, the time it takes is worth waaaaay more than the materials, easily. My friends who are good at it love doing it, but get a little miffed when someone they're not close to just sorta...expects?... a nicely made hand-knit/crocheted item. And it to be done quickly.

@Valzed HAHA ok so before reading the your text I jumped straight to the picture. I thought the hat was a unicorn lobster and got really excited. :) I like the zombie doll too, actually. She's delightful in her dresses :)

Valzed those are amazing! Like I said I'm trying to make shoes and it would be my first "project" for crochet so I'm just practicing the techniques a lot. Perhaps if you've made shoes before you could be my fallback! lol

And Ducky exactly! I've really only made things for my nieces so far, and I'll make stuff for family as gifts for free because they're fam, but anyone else I would be like nahman. Like that simple hat you want, would take me probably 7-8 hours to make because stopping, starting, if I mess up, I'm not super fast, if you want more intricate than a very basic hat, etc. That would require some $$$$ unless I'm making it for a present for a good friend.

It might seem small but it takes sooo long to make anything! I made a blanket that I think was 27"x36" (baby sized, anyways), it took over a month of knitting for probably 4-8+ hours a day. Yes, it hurt. That was with baby yarn and smaller needles, but size up the needles and use a thicker yarn and it'll take the same amount of time.

When I was on bed rest when pregnant with my son I got all kinds of crafty with crochet. I ended up making a crocheted cover for my nook, all kinds of hats, blankets, made my son a quick little pair of mittens (so he didnt accidentally scratch his face). For a baby girl I made some cute hats in colors of her room, the baby teal, white and pink, and crocheted mini bows and flowers on bow berette clips that way they could accessorize the hats how they wanted. Practical stuff like that. Anytime I am on the broke side, gifts for babies and such are usually crocheted hats because yarn is cheaper than pretty much everything else.

@Ducky - Unicorn lobster, huh? Not a bad idea... If I added some yarn for a mane, maybe. :D I can't claim credit for the zombie. She was created by the owner of Zombeiz. She was custom made for me. I adore her!

@losteh - Aw, thank you! I've never made shoes but the Etsy store I bought the dress patterns from has a great pattern for shoes. If you'd like I can PM you a link to the Etsy store.

Oh, yes, Ducky's right. I crocheted my mom a Gryffindor scarf for her birthday one year. (I even ironed on a patch with the Gryffindor house crest.) Well, she wore it to our old church and one of the ladies we talk to kept hinting at how much she'd love a "Harry Potter scarf" & was sort of insulted that I didn't have one for her the next week. Now scarves are easier than say a blanket, but still - I made that scarf out of love for my mom. I'm not going to "whip one up" for just anyone.

(The iron mark faded about 10 minutes after this picture. I was so worried I'd burned it!)

It's great to get to "meet" other crafters! I'm a knitting fiend; lace shawls tend to be my favorite thing to make. I've made myself three sweaters, as well as making one for my grandmother. I also like knitting socks, because turning the heel seems like crazy voodoo magic!

Here's a picture of my favorite lace shawl that I made for myself:

I can't seem to get the photo to work.

DeeBee that's beautiful!

Kintting/crocheting is so fun and watching the project come along is really exciting for me. I think it's that "I am making this, I have a clear view of my productivity" that gets me going. Hoping to start slippers soon since I don't have as much due with one of my classes coming to an end. :)

Thanks, y'all! I don't recall whether discussion of other websites is permitted in these forums, but there's a lovely website out there on the Intartoobz specifically designed for crafters. Feel free to message me if you want the name of it.

So I haven't sewed the tops on yet or put the string that will be used to tie them onto their feet, but aside from that these bad boys are done:

I'm so excited to give these to my girls. It will be one of their 1st & 2nd birthday presents. :)

Made these for my friend's baby. I'll make a few more pairs for her and whip up some matching scratch mitts. So excited, my littles are too big for super small booties!

All of these booties are super cute! You are a knitting/crocheting machine! I just crochets my zombie doll some simple booties but my real project I'm working on is for my mom. She's always wanted a black lacy looking long vest so I'm crocheting her one for Christmas. This is my first real clothing piece for an adult. Fingers crossed that I don't mess it up. lol!
