long ago, the wolves and bison of the prairie lived in harmony. the wolves would take a bison calf on occasion, but mostly fed on old carrion. the bison, in turn, could take the lives of the wolves with their horns and cloven hooves. in the year of the elder wolf bimose's death, a meteorite struck a mother wolf's den with such ferocity that it left a crater. the rock struck a spring of water, and within a few seasons, the mother lake formed.

the prairie life had always been dry. most of the creatures' young perished in the piercing hot summer. mother lake gave life to the plains wolves and the bison. but then a new conflict occurred. bison would aggressively injure lone wolves that came to take drinks at the water. the two largest packs held counsel, and decided that they must speak to the bison about this new skirmish. unfortunately, all four pack leaders became deceased before any needs were met.

bison and wolves have been at a standoff since the death of the pack leaders. rogue groups of wolves had tried to target the bison herd's lead bull, bangisin. the wolves had a conspiracy that the former pack leaders had been assassinated by the bison. pups and calves were kept close by, for fear of being murdered or eaten. the pack near the northeastern lakeside remains quiet and without conflict; the northwestern pack has two sets of leaders who argue and fight at constant. dangerous groups of bison occupy the southside of mother lake.
