Opening

In the neighborhood of never change, it was strange to see the house that was lonely for so long now not be. For about a year, the for sale sign stayed by that house and the neighbors expected once they saw it disappear about a week ago that something was going to happen. But there was also a chance that the sign would be replaced with a new one. One that wasn't spray painted all over by the local teenage dirtbags. Although replacing the sign was the Brisbane family. A modest family of two daughters and a single mother, leaving the assumptions to the nosy 'richies' down the street.

Christina Brisbane was a lovely lady. A petite body with delicate skin that was never introduced to dirt and short brown hair that always seemed perfect. Even now as she was unloading one heavy box after another. She knew this was going to be hard, as were the last few months since the divorce and the remains of her open mind seemed weak. She was a dependent woman and the divorce had began to exercise her independence, but she would much rather depend on her new boyfriend, Jeff. He was a well-off man in a nice house and money, things that she needed to support her children. If it wasn't for her oldest daughter despising her loved boyfriend, she would have already moved in with him. But, things aren't that simple in her world.

Grace got out the passenger seat and slammed the door"I don't want to live here" she said disapproving the move all along. Grace went to the trunk of the car which was a piece of junk in her eyes. She got her tiny suitcase of belongings and stormed inside where her room is. She only got to bring her clothes because her mother thought it would be better to restart as a family. She hated it here the house smelled like old rotten dead bodies from being shut up for a while. Grace loved it back home she had everything she ever wanted friends, family, and a father. Now she had none of that!

Christina rolled her eyes, trying not to let her words get to her, but she knew they would. It's hard to understand these things while you're a teenager. Followed behind Grace was the youngest of the two daughters, 12 year old Madi, also tugging along her quite large suitcase. Christina knew the rest of the boxes would have to be brought in by her boyfriend, Jeff and though she knew he would be more than happy to help, it would cause possible drama with Grace. "You're just going to have to learn being a mother," She told herself with a sigh, walking to the front door hands full of heavy boxes.
Outside the house, neighbors were just becoming lively, heading out of their houses to check the mail or bring in the newspaper. Some just wanted an excuse to get a better look at the new-comers. The house across from the Brisbane's seemed lonesome though. The only person that came out was a quite tall boy, about 6'2. He seemed as if a dark shadow among all the bright faces around him. Blackened hair and tan skin, black muscle shirt, and rolling smoke coming from the cigarette he held.

"Well I guess Jeff is going to have to learn to be a father"she yelled running inside the house slamming the front door. She ran upstairs to her room and dropped her suitcase then laid on her bed and started to cry. Everything has gone wrong she lost her father, her friends why did it have to be this way?  She sat up and deiced that she was going to go back out there to meet the neighbors. "Mom I am going to go meet the neighbors" she said not even letting her mother say anything. She walked to the house next door letting her hair down she looked around when she saw a boy standing there she said "Hey I am your new neighbor my name is Grace."

Watching the girl approach, the boy's brown eyes narrowed, not really interested in the 'friendly neighbor chat'. He looked her up and down, as if judging everything. "Um hey," he muttered to her, showing his disinterest through his deep voice. He wasn't the type to conversate with just any girl unless they did something that would benefit him. From the looks of her, he detected she would be the boring type, but of course he always had to keep his mind open. Who knows what she truly could be.

"What's your name" she asked shyly. She got a call and walked away to answer it was her dad. "Dad hey how are you? I miss you I hate Jeff he will never replace you" she said. She listened to him talk missing the sound of his voice. "Okay dad bye I love you" she said sad to hear he had to go. She looked at the boy"sorry that was my father." She looked at the road and wished her father was with her. How she missed him realizing the boy was talking she looked at him and listened to him. "I am trying to make new friends and my mother is trying to make a new father for me but you know I don't like him."

As the girl grew closer to him, he looked over, his brown eyes now narrowing. He looked the girl up and down, not really in the mood to talk to anyone let alone a girl like... her. "Uh hey," he muttered showing disinterest. He was never the type to conversate with others outside his 'group' unless they were something he could use. And by the looks of her, he knew she was nothing of worth to him, but who knows who she really is. "Dylan," he introduced himself, his deep voice cold and about as uninviting as his eyes.

"Sorry if I am bothering you I guess I will go nice to meet you" she said as she pushed her jet black bangs out of her eyes. She walked away and went to the house. She walked in the house letting her converses hit the floor letting them know she was home. She went to her room and started to unpack her clothes which mainly contained of band shirts and ripped skinny jeans and the only colors was red and black. Once she got everything unpack she laid on the bed and closed her eyes thinking about her friends and everything back home. Grace recalled the phone call with her father. Grace finally got up to her mother calling the household to dinner.

At the dinner table it was silent, despite Madi's babbling about nothingness. Once she finished and began stuffing her face, Christina turned her attention to Grace and smiled to her, "I noticed you were talking to the boy across the street. He seems interesting." She tried hard to bond with her teenage daughter, trying helplessly to be on the same side as her. Madi giggled, "Oo does Grace have a boyfriend already?"

'I don't even know him Madi" Grace shot back! She looked at her mother and said 'he didn't even really talk I don't like it here no one talks it's all to quite. She looked down at her feet and started to cry softly "I hate it here I want to go home" she sobbed. Grace felt embarrassed but yet she couldn't hold back the tears. She stayed where she was and began to cry harder as she thought about this past few weeks.

Christina walked over to her sobbing daughter, wrapping her arms around her and rubbing her back, hoping to calm her down,"It's going to be okay. I know moving to a new place is hard and scary, but I'm sure you will make as many friends you had at the last school." Madi, feeling quite uncomfortable sat quietly eating the rest of the food on her plate. "Why don't you two get ready for bed. You have a long day of school in the morning," Christina said. She was feeling sorry for her two girls having to go through all this, but the divorce was for the best, she knew.

"Okay mom" she said before getting up and walking to the bathroom. She locked herself in the bathroom giving herself some time to think to herself. She looked at herself in the mirror and washed her face. "What's wrong with me why doesn't anyone want me around" she whispered to herself. She unlocked the door and went to her room and took off her converses and laid in bed. She shortly began to cry the entire night she cried herself to sleep.

The next day Christina walked int Grace's room to wake her up, "You have 40 minutes before I drive you and Madi to school so make it count," She said in a cheerful voice. She was always a morning bird and what happened last night, wouldn't stop her from making sure her daughters had a good start to school. She headed back out into the hall and made sure Madi hadn't fell back asleep which she was known to do.

Grace jumped up and got her band shirt on and her black ripped skinny jeans on. After getting dressed she got her solid black converses on and then went to brush her hair and teeth. She put on her makeup and looked at herself "not bad"she said to herself. Her ice blue eyes peeked out at her through her black bangs as she went out to the car and sat in the passenger seat. "So how do I look mom and be honest?" She was so nervous but yet excited even though she didn't want to be here at all this was the only thing she looked forward to.

"Beautiful as always, baby," Christina smiled and started the car. Madi continued to babble on about nothingness and Christina half tuned her out as she was nervous on how her girls were going to view the school. It was voted the best in the state. After dropping Madi off, the high school wasn't much farther. Since Madi's absence, it was quiet in the vehicle. Finally it rolled to a stop in front of a quite large school. Some students were walking into the building while others stood around the courtyard gossiping or talking about the football game coming up. And in a secluded corner was the boy from across the street, Dylan and two other seemingly attractive guys.
