Commodore's Arrival
Β  Β

Β  Β Β  Soon after Sweet Haven arrived at Feathered Gold Assateague Ponies Manor, she whinnied across the channel to Assateague Island, as if she sensed that was where she truly belonged. I felt bad, but didn't feel as if she could actually survive there, as she had been born, and grown up in captivity. Just two days later, the manager called frantically, telling me a wild Assateague stallion had just swam the channel to visit Sweet Haven! I freaked, quickly grabbing some clothes, and drove to the airport. Got to the farm, ready to chase that stallion away, only for the riders, and manager to shush me. I looked at them with surprise, but then looked to where they were pointing, to see an extremely handsome young stallion, which couldn't be much older than Haven, completely entranced with her; and vise versa. Nickering, nuzzling, and rubbing against each other, I knew they were meant to be. The manager whispered that Pony Penning Day was only a few days away and perhaps I should try to adopt the colt; if he was caught that is. ;) I nodded and went into the house to gather my thoughts while the others spread out to finish their evening work; though the person in charge of Sweet Haven had to be careful, as the colt was rather vicious, and protective of his "mate".Β

Β Β  Fast forward two days and the colt was captured along with several hundred other ponies. As he didn't seem to be a flashy color, there wasn't much of a bidding war for him, so I got him for only a mere $50. I took him home and had the vet do a genotype test on him. To my delight, he turned out to be homozygous for CrCcr, DD, ChCh, and flaxen! Paired up with Sweet Haven, the vet said their foals would be Sable Cream Champagne Duns for sure; a lovely color in my opinion! I didn't care if they weren't flashy Palominos, temperament is more important than looks.Β

Β Β  I can hardly believe this happened just yesterday, as I stare out of the window at him in the paddock next to Sweet Haven. We named the colt, Commodore, for he was so wild, so freedom driven, and oh so vicious. I doubted we could ever gentle him down, though, the manager reassures me he can gentle him down over time, for he has good conformation, and figures the colt is simply scared. I believe he can, so as I pack up to go back to my Smoky Mountain Feathered Gold Stables in Tennessee; I imagine the gorgeous foals they'll have. <3
