Removed breeds?

I'm still pretty new to EV and was wondering about all the removed breeds :D I've heard about Fjords, but I was wondering how many total breeds there used to be and if anyone has old screenshots, please share them! I'd love to see the old artwork ♥

I've heard of Fjords, Shires, Percherons, Beligum Draft, Lusitanos, and Knabs. Those are the ones that the players seem to mourn the most. Pretty sure that there's more but I haven't seen them being mentioned.

Unfortunately, I can't find any pictures of old pictures except for that one on the internet. Maybe one of the older players has some in their files.

Ah, thank you so very much ♥ Now I'm just left wondering about the old artwork, maybe there could be some way, like Easter, to bring back some old horse art for something seasonal :D I think that'd be neat, especially for older players to see their lost horses once again, maybe have a Christmas Fjord come and visit?

unfortunately, I think with the old artwork, it would be a copyright thing as we commissioned a then-player for the game artwork. I do not believe we would still have the rights to it. in addition, it would be severely difficult to implement (even if temporary) as we have updated so many factors, stats, confo, add-ons, etc...

I do miss the old art and breeds, but it would be nearly impossible for abbey & the mod team to bring it back ♥

I used to breed Belgian Drafts a long time ago. When I first joined ev, i named myself BAF; as i started to breed Belgian Drafts, Appaloosas, & Friesians. i actually still have some horses that can be traced back to my first horses. the deleted horses were made into no-breeds (which were super desirable and still are).

I see what you mean, Pistol, and I suppose it would be very hard. Ooh, I wonder if maybe instead we could have a little reference to the old EV, like say the wild horses background there could be brumbies as we have mustangs nd the two breeds are kinda similar. Perhaps we could have maybe a background that has a re-creation of some old artwork. Maybe something like the Rural Roads background could have a small horse off in the distance in a similar pose/build to older breeds. not something able to be copywrited. 
Feather, that's super cool to still have descendants of old horses, I find that really neat ♥ And btw very unrelated but every time I see your name I think of an old reddit post I saw where someone referred to a feather as a 'bird leaf', so now in my mind you're Bird Leaf lol

We had Oldenburg's as well, that was what I started with. I think we had Hanoverians or possibly Holstieners? I have played so many games over the years that it's hard to remember sometimes, lol. 

I actually have a document of most of the old horse art here just for those nostalgic people, there's a couple breeds I don't quite remember which art it had.

Personally I'd really love to see the return of Fjords, Irish Draughts or a draft breed. 

Art wise, I don't think it's possible to use the old art for anything, definitely couldn't replace anything since very few of the files remain. With the look of the new site, I wouldn't want any of the old horse art cropping up on it for anything other than nostalgia reasons like these posts.

I would love to see Shires and Irish Drafts come back, also Brublies so we have 2 wild horse breeds :) I think Fjords would be great to bring back as the artwork would be easier to add than Knabstruppers because of the simpler colors, but it's the same with Shires. Thank you very much for this list, it's really helpful :D and btw I can't get into the Google Doc bc it says I need access, so I requested it :p

The Knabs weren't a popular breed compared to Appaloosas. The cull was done based on breeder numbers and active horses. The only reason the Lipizanner was kept was for the argument of another baroque breed (though personally I would have preferred the Lusitano). 

I've changed the permissions now, I forgot that was a thing. 

Also just a reminder that other horse SIM games aren't allowed to be discussed on EV.

My apologies about the SIM games, I fixed it :) the eyes of some of the breeds look a bit odd, and overall the artwork just looks very old and early-2000's-ish I guess, but they're still cute. I love the Niner Pony, but it looks slightly out of place. I would love to see Lusitanos come back in the current art style :D They're beautiful ♥

Whoa! It's so awesome to see all of the old artwork! I love the original Belgian Draft artwork! I also love the v2 Andalusian artwork as well!

I saw that the v2 Appaloosa was never implemented. Plus there are several breeds that are missing for v2 such as Clydesdales and Tekes. Is there a reason why we switched to the current version instead of keeping the v2?


Personally, I would love to have more draft horses artwork. Since we allow crossbreeding now, I am hoping that we can get Drum Horse artwork someday. I would love to have a heavy draft horse with a longer mane and tail than Clydesdale!

ooo i remember hearing some breeds shared artwork before, interesting to see which ones did! that Percheron is adorable ♥

was there any meaning behind the Niner Pony's name? i think i've actually seen that picture before... o.O years ago as a kid i did stumble across EV while looking for games to play, i just didn't end up joining until long after the recode lol.

V2 artwork never got finished, I'm unsure of the reason why. There wasn't any artwork updates when I joined and the recode was announced about a year later I think. Could possibly be that Abbey decided to go in a different direction. 

Niner is the player Niner's RL horse (also called Niner) who passed away. I believe they were good friends with Abbey and she added the Niner pony as a tribute. You can read a bit about Niner on their profile. Abbey has said that she won't be bringing the Niner Pony back in the past.  

I do like the story of the Niner, though it's sad that it won't come back, though it does make sense as Abbey will probably get a ton of requests for everyone else's horses to be added as well.
