Flaxen/silver question

There are two horses I got from the EC that carry the flaxen gene and I was wondering two things.

1) If I use a coat color randomizer, could my flaxen gene disappear/get randomized? (I don’t want to lose it)
2) If I use the coat randomizer, could I GAIN silver or flaxen genes?

And, on another note, How big is too big when it comes to herd size for one breed? I don’t want to bite off more than I can chew per se. (I have a herd of 32 run that is pretty manageable)

Yes to both questions. 

Herd size is really how much you can manage with the time you have, if you use/can afford autocare etc. I can do 100 if I have a couple hours free but currently around 50 with limited time.
