Trying to get into art, need help!

#247669 Posted on 2021-09-08 19:48:16

Hi! I'm an artist in real life, but I'm struggling! I'm trying to get into creating digital art, and hopefully selling it here on Equiverse along the line, but I need help!

I have never really done digital art before, so I want to know everything there is to know about the process, from creating to selling! I really want to know what app or website to use!

Thank you for reading and please help me out!

hii i haven't done art in a long time here but i do have some recommendations! slightly long post ahead ;-;

programs / equipment
if you have a computer or laptop, gimp or krita are pretty commonly used free programs as far as i'm aware. i personally prefer krita to gimp but i haven't used gimp in a long long time. there's also photoshop and paid programs but i don't really know a lot about those. with computers/laptops, some artists who can afford it buy 'tablets' (brands such as wacom, huion, that kind of tablet - there are more affordable options/brands as well) that connect to the computer but you can also just use a mouse or trackpad.
if you have a phone or tablet there are apps you can use too. i dont know a whole lot of apps but im sure just looking in your app store you can check reviews there! the one i use to doodle in is autodesk sketchbook and i like it but if you have apple products i've heard procreate is good. styluses are definitely helpful when using a tablet or phone but not necessary!!

making art
different artists have their own techniques obv. you can do your own lineart, or you could use free linearts like the ones you can find on deviantart. if you do use free lineart it's good to make sure you read the artists' rules on use and also credit them. also dont forget to credit yourself :) your style in digital art may be different or similar to your traditional style. just have fun with it!!

selling
i dont have a lot of advice here but i have seen newer artists doing auctions to get a feel for pricing.

i'd also check out the art section of the help tab (link) as it does have some helpful info as far as art use on this site. also check out the pinned posts in the art gallery and critique topic. im not the most knowledgeable on digital art so hopefully some others chime in! i hope this was somewhat helpful though!
