Silver and Flaxen

#238402 Posted on 2021-04-24 14:05:30

Hello everyone. Is it possible to get horses with genes Silver and Flaxen in the equine center? 😃

Silver and flaxen are very rarely given out by the EC. They are usually hidden with white or grey. You would probably spend less by using a flaxen tweak gene on a horse than trying to generate one from the EC.

It is rare, as Maple said, but it can happen occasionally. For example, I got this Gypsy Vanner mare from the EC the other day that has one copy of the Flaxen gene, and is not a dominant white or greyer:

Berries Black as Midnight

But it is definitely rare, I made 13 Gypsy mares before I finally found a decent one, and probably 5 more before the mare linked above popped up. depending how much money you have it could probably be cheaper to just buy a couple Flaxen/Silver gene tweaks.

Weird, didn't know it was rare. About 8 or 9 weeks ago I created many Akhal-Tekes in EC to make a new line. The 6 tekes I decided to keep all have double flaxen. Most are bays, one is perlino and one smoky black.
Ofcourse I don't remember how many tekes I created and how many of them had the flaxen gene. Maybe I was just lucky lol.

Flaxen isn’t a gene in Akhal Tekes. FF in the genotype means no flaxen as it’s a recessive gene, it needs two copies of f (flaxen) to show up on a chestnut base. So FF = no flaxen Ff= flaxen carrier and ff = flaxen.

Ohhh~
Thank you Maple for clarifying. I remembered if the letters were big (idk, for example STYSTY) then it meant the horse has that gene. Didn't know it was other way around with flaxen.
