Windigo
As the sun started to set over the distant ridge, Windigo’s temper rose. She slowly got more bothered, and almost angry. She kept it to herself, but she could tell something was wrong. She longed to go the the south border of her land- to find something, anything. Preferably whatever was making her antsy. Something told her to stay with the herd though- they’ll need her. As the horses settled, Windigo thought she heard horses in the distance. She wanted to dismiss it as the bordering herds horses, but she knew better. These didn’t sound like horses she knew. Windigo didn’t sleep that night, instead, she kept her eyes and ears pinned on the southern border.

Tango
Tango watched behind bushes as another horse walked nearby, this one catching her by surprise. She recognized the markings and coat as another herds member, and for a moment, she thought she was screwed. She remembered her bold ways though, and was settled instantly. She waited for the horse to leave and booked it in the way she thought was home. After a long time galloping, she found a clearing and remembered from there the way back to the herd. She ran out of the brush and barreled straight to Mesa. “Mesa, Mesa! Horses, horses...” She struggled to speak, tired and sides heaving from the run. “And... two legged creatures... on top... in the woods.”

Mesa
The old stallion hadn't even noticed Tango's absence, he was so exhausted by the move. He'd been tossed from horse to horse, everyone with some sort of problem- 'My foal is tired, aren't we getting close?' 'Tell Shale we need to rest!' 'I think I saw a lake over that hill... Oh, oops, never mind. But I do think there's a lot of grass over here!'- and between that and the new horse who'd come out of nowhere at the worst possible time, he was surprised he could still stand. He'd managed to negotiate with Shale to let the new mare stay for a few days, in order to stay any longer than that she'd need to prove herself useful. Where she was from he had no idea, hopefully she didn't mean any harm. He'd talked with her and answered some questions, and she seemed nice enough, but he was worried- he was always worried, it was his job. He hadn't brought up his concerns with Shale yet, given how hard he'd had to try just to get him to let the mare stay a few days, but that would have to come up eventually. If he didn't mention it and it turned out to be true, he'd look bad.
For those reasons, he'd failed to notice that Tango still hadn't returned. So when she came skidding back, he was taken completely by surprise. "Tango? What is it?" She was so wound up, it took a few seconds for him to figure out what she was saying. "Horses? Maybe-" He stopped abruptly when Tango kept speaking. Two legged creatures? Could it be? It couldn't... "I- I'm sure it's nothing, Tango," he managed, trying to sound placid. "Probably just the Spruce herd moving through. If they were near our territory, it might be a reason for concern- I'll speak to Shale about it, but I wouldn't worry. Don't... don't mention it to anyone in the herd, okay? Let's keep this to ourselves." He didn't like to hide his real opinion from her, but he didn't dare mention what it might be. He hadn't seen one of those in years... "How many were there? How many horses?"

Tango
Tango listened to Mesa speak- he talked like someone she used to know. Who it was though, she couldn’t quite place her hoof on it. Her sire maybe? Grand-sire? She had no idea, but his voice was calming to her. She could see the concern in his eyes when he told her to keep it between the two of them, and was a little offset by this. As soon as Tango had appeared, Mesa had disappeared, so the filly turned away- at first heading towards her mother, then somehow she shifted closer to Mesa and Shale. She got as close as she could, but stayed far enough away as to not look push-y. She laid down and puffed at the dirt, blowing away dust and creating an ant-sized canyon.

Tango

Tango diverted her eyes from her miniature canyon and watched as the horse she greeted earlier walked up to Mesa. She thought to herself and wondered where the new horse had been, but more importantly... what she had seen. Tango longed to see the other herd's borders, maybe one day cross them- she had only ever seen one, and from a distance. Never allowed to get close. Tango's eyes wandered on the horizon. Somewhere, somewhere out there... was her father. She was determined to find him one day. She snapped back to the real world at the sound of Riven's voice. One day...

As the minutes passed and the sun set, Tango grew restless. How could she stay here when there was so much to be seen? And what about the mysterious horses she had seen earlier that day? As most of the other horses slept, Tango watched the sky- as if she were waiting for something. I am fast. I can run South, touch the moon, and be back before morning... Tango plotted for the next night. She knew she was fast, but what she didn't know? Just how far away the moon was... and just how close the two-leggers were.

Riven

The mare sighed she had grown weary of waiting for a chance to speak to mesa besides it was getting late she walked over towards the young filly she had been talking to earlier “hey there tango right?” riven said “ Is mesa always this busy? Y’know maybe I shouldn’t have come here” she sighed

Tango

Tango glanced down and to her surprise came face-to-face with the new mare. "Yes..." She stole a glance at the Mesa, "He is always quite busy- but he means well, I'm sure you'll find your place by sunset tomorrow. You'll be just fine." Tango spoke from the back of her head, not giving too much thought to the conversation. She had confidence that the mare would fit in fine, and prove her worth when the time came. For now, though, Tango was fixated on the moon. The soft blue light of it danced in her eyes and made her long to reach the stars. No borders could stop such a determined soul, and Tango knew that. Nothing would hold her back from finding the truth- not her dam, Mesa, nor the odd creatures she had found earlier that day.

Tango
“No, no.” She whinnied and stood. “I’m not busy at all. In fact, I’d love to talk.” Tango nestled back down at her cleverness. If she were going to make it to the moon in a night’s time she’d have to know more about it, and how to reach it. The filly with the most questions had the most answers, after all. She paused and stole a last glance at the sky, thinking for a moment. Finally she let out a snort to the moon and returned to the issue at hand.

“What do you know about the outside?”

GRiven
Riven settled down she could tell that this was going to be a long conversation  “hmm well theres alot to tell the world can be terrifying , there are humans I was caught by them once but they would strike me with something so I escaped. But the humans are the worst part if you ask me though there are lots of other things like wolves these hairy animals that might trh to attack you or cougars or bobcats, but there are so many good things” riven said as she gazed towards the sky “the moon I always loved chasing the moon I almost reached it once then those rotten humans caught me and I never reached the moon. I know that I could reach the moon if I had the chance but it’s safer with another horse so Ive tried to find a herd ever since....” she paused for a moment “I miss being adventuring though but it’s difficult without my ...” riven went silent
[riven is referring to the passing of her mother in that last part]

Tango
Tango listened eagerly to the conversation at hand. Riven had nearly touched the moon. Tango paused, "Humans... cougars... and wolves?" Tango had taken on a bobcat once before, so the mentioning of these pitiful sounding creatures did not shake her. She sensed the sadness fall in Riven's eyes and changed the subject. "Thank you, thank you for telling me about the moon." That was the most she could scrape up from her dry tongue. Tango decided she had to leave right away. Twilight would provide her plenty of shadows to run in, and protection from any prying eyes. "If you would excuse me- I really do have to go. Utmost importance. Sorry." Tango snapped out the words and bolted silently to the wooded area close to the sleeping band of horses. She paused behind a large tree, and stole one last glance at Mesa and her mother.

I'd like to join!

My Character:
Mare - 4 years
Breed: Appaloosa
Name: Amber
Nickname: none
Herd: Alpine
Coat:
Temperament: Quite shy, and tells things like it is. She will defend those she cares about, but only cares about them. Will stand her ground when needed.

Amber was trotting through the land in the moonlight. She was on Alpine land, but she was never welcomed in the herd. Her mother wasn't one of the favorites in the herd, and how the herd felt about her mom; that's how they felt about her. Not only that, but her mother was killed by a terrible mistake made by the herd. She was young when it happened, and once she was old enough she ran away from the herd. No point in staying. The past few years have been rough for Amber. She was all alone, and had many challenges. Men, predators, and getting lost. She also had to stay off the other herd's lands. One time, someone from the Spruce herd had tried to attempt her in being a spy for them and watch the Alpine herd. She refused, and went along her way. Amber always loved to gallop in the moonlight. This night though was different. After about 2 years of leaving the herd, she came across them again. She went to a abrupt stop, and watched them. Some newer members including foals. Amber stayed in the shadows, she didn't want to be seen, and she didn't want to know what would happen if see was spotted. Why are they so close to human territory? If they stay here for too long, then they're going to get in the hands of men. Now she had to do something. Amber was caught once, and thankfully escaped. After a few minutes of debating whether or not to approach the herd and warn them, she stepped slowly out of the shadows.
