Moose Update

#222746 Posted on 2020-05-13 16:10:08

So, today was vet day for my Moose. He started having issues breathing about a month and a half ago. We came up with a total lifestyle change (moving to a new barn with a large dry lot). While he's been breathing better than he was, he's still not quite "right". Today, my vet came back out for vaccines and to recheck him. We're testing him for Lymes disease and he's sore in his front feet which may be contributing to some of his "coordination" issues. My farrier will be out in 2 weeks to put front shoes on to see if they help; if not, we'll be doing xrays to have more details for the farrier to work his magic with. My vet is also okay with how he was breathing (especially compared to how he was). We have a few different options for managing it. We're going to start out with antihistamines. If those don't work, we have a few different medications we can try. I'm so relieved that there are so many different things we can try to help him and that my vet is so positive that we can keep him comfortable. Handsome boy was very good for all of the poking and prodding he got today (including the intranasal strangles vaccine).

Oh my gosh, this boy is fabulous!! You're so right, he's a handsome creature, lol!! I remember you mentioning in another post a while back, that he was having some breathing issues. I'm so happy to hear that he has shown some improvement. It sure sounds like you have a great farrier and super vet! With all those options it seems really hopeful that he can get back to great health. Keep us posted, won't you??

My Goodness, what a beautiful boy!

What breed is he? He looks like he is Quarter horse or Mustang.

He is very pretty! He looks a lot like one of my old Belgian draft horses!
