NSS Question?

#220916 Posted on 2020-04-14 11:15:06

Just curious as I wasnt sure. Is it prefered that a horse have less than 80 NSS overall, or 80 in each NSS?

Overall. The less the better for showing since only the SS matter. For me, 80 overall is too many already, I aim for 60 max.

I am still new to EV, and just wondering what the NSS are, what they represent and where to find them?

Nss stands for Non-Specialty Stats, so the stats that doin't count towards a horses specialty. There's a table in the help section on showing that gives the stats needed for each specialty, the remainder will be the Non-Specialty Stats!

The less than 60 nss stems from the foundation level that horses start at. The average in each category is 20 stats, and with 3 non specialty stats that total is 60! Horses that have under 20 in each non-specialty stat will excel in their chosen discipline faster than horses that have more than 20 in each area.

Can I add a question on,

can nss be bred down? I am going through my horses and some that I am breeding etc are over 80 but under 120, can I bred the NSS down?

Yes, Stats average between the two horses being bred together, with a small chance of a lightly lower stat value. With continued breeding to horses with lower level stat values your horses will lower their nss over time.

Here is an example I gave the other day:
"I bred Sarah and Chuck yesterday and produced this foal.
Sarah has nss of 20/18/20 and Chuck has 13/13/11.
Their averages are 16/15/15, which is exactly what the foal got this time. There is a small percentage chance that the foal could have gotten a further drop as well."
