Kitty
"I can sing a song my uncle taught me back at the ranch," she offered. "It's called Out Where the West Begins. D'you know it by chance?"

Sylvia
"Can't say I do, but if the patrons like it, you're hired." Sylvia gestured to the door. "Just get out there and sing. I'll be by the bar when you're done."

Kitty
She gave a Sylvia a nod of acknowledgment. She used the walk from backstage to the piano to compose herself, breathing deeply and mentally relaxing. The man quietly playing the old piano was ancient, his back bent from many years of playing at saloons. His fingers lazily ambled over the yellowed keys, touching them just enough to create the melody that emanated throughout the saloon. Kitty bent near the ear of the old pianist, whispering the name of an old cowboy song in his ear. He smiled and nodded his head to show that he knew the piece. In a tastefully subtle way, he blended his old melody with the chords of her song as she walked onto the modest stage, adding his own accents to embellish the simple but sweet tune.

Kitty took one last deep breath as all the eyes in the building slowly rested their gaze on her, and softly began to sing.

Out where the handclasp’s a little stronger,
Out where the smile dwells a little longer,
That’s where the West begins;

Out where the sun is a little brighter,
Where the snows that fall are a trifle whiter,
Where the bonds of home are a wee bit tighter,
That’s where the West begins.

Out where the skies are a trifle bluer,
Out where friendship’s a little truer,
That’s where the West begins;

Out where a fresher breeze is blowing,
Where there’s laughter in every streamlet flowing,
Where there’s more of reaping and less of sowing,
That’s where the West begins.

As the last note slowly faded from the air, Kitty smiled at the pianist and waited for the reactions of the patrons.

Outlaw
She went up to the counter in the general store, and quietly ordered the ammo she needed. She paused, glancing at the rolls of ribbons and candies. "A bag of mixed candy and the royal blue hair ribbon as well." She added. The clerk behind the counter looked at her in surprise but did as she had asked and put them on the counter. "Didn't know you used hair ribbons Miss." He commented. "Ain't for me." She replied, taking her stack of ammo and the candy and ribbon. She paid and walked out, placing the stuff carefully in her saddlebags. She mounted, and was reining her blue roan to leave the town when a tough looking old cowhand standing on the boardwalk watching her caught her eye. She reined in and waited. "Heard you need hands at the Lightning Bar, and I liked what you did in that saloon." He drawled. She studied him, liking what she saw. "Come to the Lightning Bar once you got what you need. Can't miss it. North outta town, follow the trail." She said, then reined her mare all the way around and hit the trail back to the ranch at a high lope. She reined in at the stand of trees standing on the hill leading to the ranch, noting a man in the ranch yard. She gently nudged her mare, soft footing the mare down the hill and in behind the stranger. "Can I help you stranger." She said coldly, reining her horse in behind him, one hand rested lazily near her gun holster.

Johnny
Johnny stared up at the tough looking girl in front of him, her hand being near her gun not slipping his attention. His eyes widened and he tripped over his words, eyes flicking nervously all over the place. "I uh h-heard 'bout a job, and uh was just um g-gonna- this probably is the wrong place and... I'll just leave." He attempted to speed walk around the horse and ended up tripping on his own feet.

Johnny
"Oh, uh, thanks... mi amigo." He self-consciously fiddled with his too large shirt. It was true, he hadn't had much to eat for a while. He (of course) didn't have much money, and never really felt safe eating among big Texas men after what he'd experienced before. "So this is the right place?"

"If you where lookin fer the Lightning Bar it is." She replied, nudging her horse towards the barn and motioning for him to follow. She swung down and layed her saddlebags over the hitching rail then with the swiftness of long experience undid the saddle and placed it on the fence before leading the mare into the fence she kept her personal horses in and slipping the headstall off. She exited and closed the gate, swiftly brought her saddle to the tack room in the barn, then came back out and swung her saddle bags over her shoulders, waiting for the man to come over.

Johnny
Johnny hurried over. "I was interested in the job, if you're still hiring. I have prior experience with ranch work, but you can't ask my old boss 'cause he's outta town. I'm Johnny by the way. Johnny Pastel," he said trying to sound the least suspicious about his past work as possible.

"Can you fight if you need to?" She questioned, studying him with her ice blue eyes.

Johnny
Johnny nodded. It wasn't a lie. He could fight. Was he good at it? not necessarily. Could he manage to not die? Well enough.

Johnny
"I got... a knife," he said kinda lamely as he pulled out an old kitchen knife. It was the only thing he had been able to take when he ran away. A horse ran the risk of making too much noise and blowing his cover, while the only guns had been in the house. He thought himself quite lucky to have managed to sneak anything out with him, but now he just felt judged. Of course, it wasn't like he could explain it, so her judgement wasn't uncalled for.

"I'll provide both. First lets go get something to eat." She told him, then strode towards the bunkhouse. She entered, holding the door open for Johnny, the smell of fresh food reaching her immediately from the kitchen that was connected to the side of the bunkhouse.

Johnny
Johnny tucked his knife away and entered the building. He could smell something good and his mouth began to water, but he hung on to the manners that his mama taught him and waited for his host. He stood on his tip toes, trying to prevent the floor from getting dirty.
