Bare back riding!

#206275 Posted on 2019-07-19 14:18:56

So i went to my cousins house for a week and a half. She has a horse, and there are trees in the pasture. His favorite spot is in the trees. He loves to go in there and stand in the shade.

And we were about to ride him, and i hoped on him bareback, and there are trees in the pasture. When i kicked him to go, he took off straight for the trees. I looked ahead and guess what..... BONK!I was hit in the head by a tree limb.  And of course, i feel of.

Ouch!!! I love riding bareback it's actually my favorite. I ride this black and white paint mare and she centers and trots like butter. She is my favorite to bareback, her and Pixie the pony. I don't think I'd like it so much if I got bonked with a tree though.

Owe, that sounds so sweet. But my cousins horse( hes a bay quarter horse gelding with a small star, his name is lucky) likes to try to get away with
everything, no matter who is riding him,and when there's no bit in his mouth, hes a whole different horse.

Ouch, I'd definitely go get checked for a concussion. It sounds like her horse is really only green broke. If he was fully broke you wouldn't have issues with him even non-tacked.

Yeah, my cousins freind had him when he was a foal, then they sold him. He was abused for years and was fed good. His first owner bought him back, then my cousin got him. So he wasn't trained very well by the people that had him second.

Doesn't sound like he is safe for kids at all. Horses are powerful animals, and though they may not mean to per se, they can REALLY hurt people...

He is very gentle. You can walk behind him and under him. When your tacking him up and grooming him, you don't even have to hold the lead line. He can stand on his own.

Walking under ANY horse is literally one of the dumbest things I have ever seen people do or say they do. Does not matter how "NICE" the horse is. Walking under a horse doesn't prove anything and certainly has no bearing on a horse's temperament or training level. And being able to pass behind a horse without getting your head kicked off should kind of be a given....?

Him being able to have enough self control to stand quiet for grooming and saddling is a good trait but there is MUCH more to a nice horse than standing still when handling him. Not going to argue with you about it, not really sure why I am responding. Just hate seeing people post goofy things that can result in someone REALLY GETTING HURT. Like walking under a horse...

PLEASE realize that that horse CAN hurt you, even if he doesn't mean to; take precautions to keep yourself safe and to practice safe horse handling methods.

I get what you mean. I was a baby and fell off so many times. But I always get back up. He is a really gentle horse even though ie he has a bad past. I will use this in the future. Thanks for that.

I had a paint mare who was the gentelist thing ever. She was very gentle around my baby brother. When the kids rode her she wouldn't go faster than a walk. And she would do what you asked. She was o protective of me. The other horse in the pasture was 4 and was very green. He was really ruff. One day he came at me and the mare jumped infringe of me and fought him away. He never came at me again.

I know walking under a horse in stupid, but, I do it sometimes to go on the other side of the horse. My cousin was on the front side and was against the gate. My other cousin was brushing his tail. So I just go under him sometimes. I always make sure he is looking at me and is calm.

I understand why it is dangerous. I just wanted to reply to explain a little more.
