Easter 2019

#202397 Posted on 2019-04-19 11:21:38

Hi,

How do you celebrate Easter?

On Good Friday, half of my family come over and make Galume or ricotta pie. On Saturday, I dye some eggs and make up the Easter basket, now that I’m older.
On Easter, we have our family reunion at this church hall.

Personally I prefer going back to our pagan European roots and celebrate the spring equinox.

But on Easter sunday we do go to my parents' place for a small family gathering and a meal. This year will be the first time my little nephew comes to look for easter eggs and I do look forward to giving him some presents.
And we just got some chickens who just started laying eggs, so I will probably decorate those and hand them out.

I also celebrate spring equinox (my family also calls it Ostara). We celebrated in March, it was fun. Had a large gathering of friends and family, dyed eggs and played games, including a egg hunt and trying to find the "lucky" egg. And of course a big dinner, which is usually a potluck due to the amount of people there, my favorite thing to make is shepherds pie and I also bake a lavender cake (which I didn't burn this year, woo hoo!) We celebrated outdoors and when it was night time we lit a big campfire and told stories, and also reflected on the new beginnings spring would bring.

I do have a good friend of mine that's Catholic. I'm going to mass with her on Easter and will do a Easter lunch with her friends and family afterwards. Her dad makes this awesome ham and sweet potato lunch every year. They're good people, she'll come to my little gatherings every once in awhile and I'll go to hers, we've been friends since 1st grade. Easter and Christmas are two holidays we always spend together.

Hope you all have a great holiday with family and friends!

I was actually going to mention that I celebrate on the spring equinox also. Actually, I usually celebrate Ostara, which is on the first full moon following the spring equinox. Usually I meditate and light some candles, focusing on the growth I want to achieve this year.

It kind of changes year to year. There is usually a meal involved. We did the easter egg and basket hunt with the kids today at my mom's house and had dinner. Tomorrow my kids go with their dads. Hopefully I will go to Church and then probably clean my house. If the weather is nice I might go see my horses.
