Looking to start a breeding farm

#198088 Posted on 2018-12-31 07:37:35

Hello Everyone,

I am wanting to start a breeding farm here on the game but not 100% of what breed to use/buy for it or where to find good stated horses for a good price to buy.

If you could help me out that would be amazing! Please PM me or leave a comment here please and thank you.

First things first...pick the breed YOU like.  If you go to the equine center, you can look at all the breeds...which ones do you like, and which ones are good for the specialty you want (i.e. jumping, dressage, western...)?  As far as good stats, the best horses you will ultimately get are probably the ones you breed.  You can shop for horses under horse search by selecting your breed and refining the search to only animals for sale.  If that list is too long, you can narrow it down by specialty, stats, and / or confo; just don't be too picky upfront, or you might get a very short list, or none at all.

Just remember that stats are not all about how many the horse has.  You want the stats that are not specific to your specialty (for example, dressage requires intelligence and agility, so you want to focus on those) to be as low as possible, compared to the other stats (the non-specialty stats).  You can convert training to your specialty, but there is no guarantee how low you can get them if the animal has been bred to another specialty than the one you chose.  Lowering non-specialty stats can take several generations, although it is possible.

Also important to remember is that you can breed for stats somewhat, but the big thing is that you build them.  I am actually a conformation breeder, and I work a little on color, but I build stats.  Stats will increase on a regular basis if you give your horses treats (preferably specialty treats...I use yellow and green apples for my dressage horses to build agility and intelligence) and train them every day (don't forget foal training if it is under 3 years old).  Shows and riding schools also build stats, but they also count interchangeably, so you can enter 10 shows or riding schools per day (or some of each, as long as it is no more than 10 total).  Shows will build points as well as stats, but riding schools are better if you want to make money.  Also, showing is really expensive because your best chances at a show will be if you have your horses equipped with the right tack, and have that tack fully upgraded.  Full sets of tack are sold in boxes at the general store.

Just remember that foal stats will always be lower than both parents' stats, so the longer you wait to breed, the better.  Some of the most successful breeders wait until their animals are 15 years old (breed by the time they are 20, though, because at 21 they can no longer be bred), so the stats can build, so the parents have built about 200 to 300 stats each and the foals will start out with more stats than they did.  And I hope you will not completely ignore conformation, myself, as quality horses really should have both...I myself avoid buying too many horses that are below 60 confo, and you can get these from the equine center.

Never underestimate a foundie (a horse bought from the equine center), either...the non-specialty stats will automatically start off low, and you can raise them to whatever specialty you like.  Getting those stellar animals just takes more generations...but your horses show against others of their same grade level, so they can still be competitive, especially with fully upgraded tack.
