It's About Time...

#195735 Posted on 2018-12-02 13:21:45

...I introduced to you all my pony! I acquired her on the 8th July 2017 and she is part of the reason I stopped playing for a while...

Anyways...She's called Poppy (I wont give you her full name as it's welsh) She's 50% Welsh Sec D and 50% Arab. I bought her as an unbroken 4 year old and she's flourished into a lovely cheeky 5 year old. We do a bit of everything currently and have just started riding bitless.

She's had her fair share of health issues. The first yard we were at had very rich grass that wasn't suitable for her so she had to stay in her box. Then in January of this year, we developed a sore back and had to undergo a very slow process of coming back into work. After 8 months of constant 'box rest' I decided it wasn't fair on her and moved yards. We have since moved again so she is closer to my work place. However, due to the 8 months constant in time, she has a damaged respiratory system and struggles through winter so has to have respiratory supplements and an immune booster. She's just overcoming a viral cough at the moment and it's only the start of winter so it's yet to get worse :(

Natural Horsemanship clinic (Her first 5 day stay away from home, took it like a champ)

First away dressage test (Intro 63% Prelim 62% Also her first prelim test)

Jumping 1m/1m5

Poppy's Favourite...Bath Time!!

I told her we don't snack when riding

Leading the way out and about

Rehab after bad back and 6 weeks off

Turnout at her 2nd yard (after 8 months box rest)

More jumping

Progress and change

Before we went for the hogged lifestyle

Bitless and hogged

Feel free to ask me any questions :D

She's pretty :) what was/is the reason of her back problems?

Aww she looks like a real sweet pony!
I’ve done a lot of bitless riding myself as my old morab(passed away this year unfortunately) liked bitless more than a bit. I bought him a pretty purple bitless bridle haha. It’s always fun seeing other bitless people around!

@Siren - bitless riding is great, she loves it, still learning some cues and trying to adapt but she also gets easily distracted

Poppy update: viral cough number 2 happened this week...ready for spring time when all this will stop! It’s still to get worse and more...such a shame with her only being 5

Haha I guess different horses learn differently as my old boy was never distracted with bitless. He was the opposite, he’d be uncomfortable and super distracted when using a bit XD I think the previous owners weren’t very kind to his mouth though so that is probably why.

But anyway, I hope she feels better soon. Doesn’t sound fun having these viral coughs :(

Aw she's stinking cute! ♥  You can tell she's got tons of personality! Also, good for you for making so much progress with her! I tried going bitless with my horse, but he didn't like it. He's an odd ball, felt like something was missing when he didn't have the bit in his mouth. What a wierdo lol

@Sessa - thank you :) She's great, such an all rounder and even safe that I'd stick novice riders on the lead rein on her and she's only a 5 year old, shes got such a personality but she also takes everything in her stride and everyone says they cant believe she is only 5 and i agree, bitless isnt for every horse
