Cubing Confusion

#193644 Posted on 2018-11-08 16:18:30

So, I recently created two new foundation lines and started to cube them. My plan was to cube them all the way up till I breed them and convert so I get the specialty stats, but I was reading on the forums on how some breeders don't like to purchase cubed horses. With that in mind, would it be better to stick with my original plan or to convert them at age 3 and switch to regular stat-specific treats throughout their lifetime? I also want to eventually put my foundations in shows, but I think I'll do that with the 2nd gen.

Thanks for the help!

As long as you convert them before you breed them you'll be fine. Where the issue with cubed horses is is when people cube the horse so the non specialty stats raise and then breed them without converting, making the foal useless in the terms of having any chance of winning shows.

If you wish to stud/brood your horses then you would also want to convert before you made that available since a vast majority of the player base breeds for specialty specific stats

If you're wanting to sell your horses later, probably put the base stats in the public notes with a note saying they haven't been converted yet, or go ahead and convert them.

Most people don't have a problem with cubed foundations, but will have a problem with pricing if they intend to convert after purchasing. Cubing foundations and converting at the end of their lifespan is a pretty common practice. Cubing has a higher output of stats on average compared to normal treating but it's not a major a difference. Personally, I raise foundations on cubes until they reach around 10-12 years old, then convert/switch treats and show them at the top of their training level, but other people have done lifetime and to specific ages as well.

Other generations of horses that are cubed are usually disliked by people who show. You can cube if you want to, it just limits your market to players that don't show or care about cubing. The reason people that breed for showing don't like to buy cubed horses is that just one breeding will ruin a show horse and herd for several generations, and it most often isn't worth the effort of breeding down stats when that happens.
