*Time Limit on Items Market

#158308 Posted on 2018-03-10 11:37:51

I have noticed that some items in the Items Market are ridiculously overpriced and have not sold. Often, the owners of these items have not been active for a long time.

It would be nice to have time limit for the Item Market. If an item has not sold in say a month or so, it gets dropped from the market. That way, overpriced items from inactive owners would no longer flood the Market or item owners would know to lower their prices if they really wanted to sell those items.

I think that's an awesome idea! I agree, if an inactive owner has put on say, a bunch of yellow apples for $5000 (I doubt it, but you know...) that flooded the market as you said, you wouldn't really see any others lol

There are actually 3 or 4 PAGES of yellow apples for $3000 each listed by an owner that hasn't been active in over a year!

Support.  I think it's insane how much some people try to sell items for.

It's a good idea.  My one concern is for times when someone has a large quantity of items to sell - say they stopped raising Racing horses and are trying to sell all their tack.  It takes a lot of effort to put all that stuff up for sale, and it would be really frustrating to have to keep re-entering it every month if it doesn't sell.

Maybe instead it could be some kind of alert, saying "Your item has been listed for sale for 30 days and has not sold," and then give options for response, where you could maybe select an option to extend your listings for another 30 days, or an option to lower your prices.  And then, if you don't respond to the alert, after, say, maybe a week, then the item could be removed from the listings.

Or, at the very least, tweak the listing method where you can select multiple items to each sell separately for a certain price, so you can list them all at once.

But I do agree that it is very annoying to have to wade through tons of overpriced, abandoned sales listings to find the ones that actually interest me.

Just fyi, please don't put the asterisk in the topic title - it had me really confused for a minute cause the asterisk is how I denote that topics have been added to records (and I add it once I have added the record for the topic) so please don't add it.

Sorry about the asterisk! I saw all the other asterisks and thought I was supposed to add it!

I also like the idea of options for the item listing after the initial time period, if it's not too much of a hassle to do the coding!

So, I decided to do some spring cleaning of the item listings, and went through and bought every single item listed by anyone who had not logged in this year.  (I probably missed a few, but I got most of them.)  Almost 75 pages worth of items.  Most of them horrifically overpriced.

Except for that goshdarned $10,000,000 carrot.

I would have grabbed all the overpriced stuff, but I really didn't want to reward that kind of thing.  But I got the worst of it, and things should be a lot clearer and more sensible without all that stuff clogging up the works.

I'm going to reintroduce most of the items back into the market, a little at a time, for reasonable prices.

I might try to do this every spring, just to keep the listings from turning into some sort of monster again, or at least until something is introduced to deal with the mess.

That one carrot is bugging me, though.  Not enough to drop ten million dollars on it, but still... ten million dollars for a single carrot?
