Excitedly introducing my furbaby Sapphire

#140996 Posted on 2018-01-15 05:48:47

Check out my first furbaby on her first day outside in her new home.

I named her Sapphire on account of her blue eyes. Although to everyone else thanks to my best mate she's quickly become known as Katy Purry because she "sings" (read meows) a lot. And I mean ALOT!!

She is a rescue stray found wandering the streets with no id or microchip. No one knows quite what her breed is though its suspected she's a Tonkinese mix as her head shape, ears & trade mark aquamarine eyes are typical of the breed (feel free to add any further thoughts to this!)

She's estimated to be between 5-7yo and had at least 2 litters of kittens but she's been spayed now.

Her likes so far as I have determined in our first weekend together are treating people like servants, "singing" a lot, lying in front of the bathroom sink on top of the underfloor hot water pipes & next to the radiator which is a shock to both of us at stupid o'clock in the morning when Im half alseep and wanting to get washed & brush my teeth! And poking her nose into every kitchen cupboard you open.

Her dislikes are being told "no" and she has a deep rooted hatred of the hoover & flees when its on but attacks it with great venom whenever its off & just standing there.

Aww, she’s so cute!! I’ve always wanted Siamese or Tonkinese but we only have outdoor barn cats so I can’t. She’s beautiful though, and those blue eyes!!! :D

To me that coat colouring is much more of a classic Siamese look than for sure a Tonkinese one, but she could be descended from either, seeing as Tonkinese are part Siamese. My mom had Siamese cats in the past and they are extremely talkative, with a slightly guttural voice (not too high pitched), and very involved in everything. It looks like you have an adorable kitty there and her name certainly fits her. c:

@River - yes I did look into what she could be & Siamese crossed my mind too with the coat colour but they didn't have white bits in general so i assumed she must be a cross as did the rescue ctr. Having researched Tonkinese breed she does seem to have the general personality/traits of the breed - noisy & nosy!

@Midnight Outlaw - I admit it was those pale blue eyes that made me choose her over the other cats. Its hard picking a rescue when you can only take one home :(

@Windspun - I like siamese kittys ever since I saw one in Lady in the Tramp as a kid! But getting a kitten was too much hassle & felt a bit wrong when there are older cats in need of homes.

Siamese cats are actually born white, and their colour points come in as they age. The lighter parts of their body also darken with being petted, because the oils from people's hands will sink into them. From what I have read Tonkinese do not typically have colour points (or they're not desirable for the breed), at least not anymore. The same talkativeness and inquisitive nature applies to both breeds, so that doesn't exactly pin it down. There are plenty of common factors. One thing that might help is the personality - Siamese tend to be more aloof and more prone to getting hurt feelings and can get pretty damaged if not treated kindly, whereas it seems Tonkinese tend to be bigger cuddle buddies and don't have quite such a sensitive bent. XD

Hmm well so far she seems to be not too diva-ish & she doesn't appear to be too damaged by her spell on the streets so I'd lean more toward the Tonkinese.

She doesn't seem to mind being petted & rubs her body round my ankles a lot until she gets physical contact. She also likes to follow me around the house (until she gets bored & wanders off for a nap!) and will seek me out if I'm in a different room from her & I've been gone for a while but I'm hoping that's just because she's in new surroundings. Otherwise its like having a kitty stalker!

I didn't know that about Siamese... maybe I should tell everyone to pet her neck/shoulder area more & see if she turns darker!
