Who here has real life ponies?

#131838 Posted on 2017-12-05 18:11:44

Since this is a horse game, odds are just about everyone here loves horses. But who here actually owns one??

Share your pony(s)!! Whats their name? age? what do you do together? fun fact? pictures!!!

My special man is a slaughter rescue, Arabian (possible mix), estimated to turn 25 on January 1st 2018, 14.3 hands. His name is Feature Presentation, aka Tango. Ive owned him for 7 years (as of January 23, 2011). We do EVERYTHING together: hunt seat, western, bareback, bridleless, dressage, cross country, jumping, trail riding, and the occasional pony rides for kiddos... yes hes quite the unicorn.
My fun fact? I hated this horse for the first year and a half or so... he was just a project I wanted to work on then I was going to move on. He was a jerk, really green, ground manners sucked, ran away from me a lot, and didnt know jack of trades when it came to training in anything but going on a walking trail ride, yet alone trying to show him. Then something magical happened, and I have no idea what it was but two years in he figured out he wanted me to be his person and suddenly started listening... it was a straight up miracle. He started winning shows and learning new things and has become my dream horse. Now we can ride anywhere tackless, jump 3 feet high, have won about 20 championships and trail ride absolutely everywhere... and his ground manners? Hes the most respectable horse youd ever meet. To sum it all up, this boy is staying with me until the day he leaves this wonderful world.

ah! i love talking about my baby boy!!!!

my boy is oliver. he is a six year old irish sport horse (his grand-daddy is master imp, best eventing sire in the world)

i bought him from high-level eventing people and he's been trained by some of the best.

i've started him with a grand prix dressage trainer at beginning levels. we've done some jumping, but mostly dressage. he's still young and learning.

sad thing is i haven't been able to ride him in about 4 months because he started bucking me off every time i got on. sent him to training to have the issue fixed if it was just a riding problem, he bucked the trainer off as well ($1000+ spent on nothing basically). we're now going to have him sent to a vet hospital to get x-rays and possible therapy/chiropractic work.

other than the recent issues, he's literally a doll. biggest sweetheart on earth and my partner in everything (as the photos will show). i love him to pieces. i couldn't live without his big, dumb face.

Technically these are my grandparents, but since my grandparents now live with us I consider them mine (okay I consider them mine since they got them XD)

This is my favorite picture of Shadow. She is a rescue so we don't know much about her.

This is Arnie, he is the oldest out of the two miniatures, but also the shortest and the baby XD

And this is Chance, he was returned to the breeder where we got Arnie from as the owners decided they didn't like his color.

We have five horses currently, but ideally would love another riding horse; so we don't have to borrow our friend's horses when all of us trail ride together.

Anyways, from youngest to oldest.

Hidden Timbers Shawnee War Chief a 2015 Dark Bay Tovero Splash Miniature Gelding with one blue eye and one 50/50 blue/brown. We purchased Shawn hoping for a future stallion and show horse, but he developed a roached back, and also had behavioral problems, so we gelded him. He's very feisty, spunky, and mischievous. But, he means well and he's breathtaking. His sire is Hidden Timbers War Chief aka T-Bone and dam is Hidden Timbers Charming Streak.

Mike's Major Mack is a 14.3 hh 2003 Flaxen Chestnut Pangare Haflinger Gelding. He's my parents main trail horse, and my goofball. He'll let me do almost anything on him, but he does grow irritated fairly easily. Mack is super into food, and is a bit of a doofus sometimes, but he's gorgeous and gentle.

Second Chance a 1998 (estimated birth year) Light Fleabitten Grey Miniature Horse Gelding. Chance is basically all I'd want in a full size horse and more. He's my little trick horse, and best friend. The unicorn without a horn. He's super sweet and a little shy with strangers or tall people. But, adores attention, and has loads of fun doing tricks with me.

Rosie Girl a 13.3 hh 1997 (estimated birth year) Strawberry Roan Sabino Paso Fino Mare. Rosie is my trail horse, therapist, and other best friend. She's super sweet, gentle beyond belief, forgiving, and smart. Rosie follows voice commands rather than leg pressure. So, she's an excellent trail riding horse. She's also tiny for a Paso Fino, I know!

and last but definitely not least is Hitt's Samurai Sidekick a 1994 Dark Bay Miniature Horse Stallion. Sidekick has sired three foals for us, and we've owned him for 22 years. He's laid back, gentle, sweet, great with kids, and very smart (a little too smart if you ask me). He's nice and small, and was the first foal, his breeder had ever bred, so he's incredibly special. He's very vocal as well lol. His best bud is Chance.

I have a 16ish year old gelding. I believe he is a QH/Arab cross. He is maybe 14.2 or 14.3 hands. I usually just go hang out with him when I have some spare time and weather is agreeable. I ride him here and there but mostly I like to just hang out with him. My sister gave him to me this past March. Someone dumped him off with her at their farm with another horse she was supposed to be training for the guy. Then he ended up not wanting either horse back. Anyway his name is Valentine, as he was born on February 14. He is quite beautiful and if I ever find a site to host my images I will gladly post them :)

Here's my 21 yr old Pinto/Paint/Welsh Pony. I outgrew him ages ago, but I've had him for over 13 years so he's not going anywhere. Thunder is his name..

I don't have pics sorry. but my current 2 horses are #1 RP Prides Precious is her registered name but I call her Precious. she's a 24 year old 3 quarter Arab one quarter QH mare. she stands 15.2 15.3ish hh, and don't let her age fool u! she has more spunk than most horses way younger than her! she's my angel, she lets me do basically everything on her, we did Gymkhana, I did a trick riding clinic with her, we trail ride, and I've recently been only riding her liberty, which she's awesome at! hmmm, i'm not sure what type of bay i'd call her, she's sorta a mix between a blood bay and a dark bay, with three white socks and no face markings! the only reason I've been looking for a younger horse is the vet said Precious most likely has cushings. :(

#2 run for the hills people!! lol, just kidding, but that's sorta where i'm at with Midnight, a Clyesdale cross mare, I believe she's crossed with either QH or Arab. she's black with a huge blaze, white stockings, and ISSUES!! we bought her this summer to turn into a trick riding horse, but she's being horrible! when I ride her she doesn't wanna listen to basic walk/trot/lope/stop commands and bucks when I ask her to do the them, when I do groundwork she tries to kick, and I recently got dragged a ways while lunging her. and because she's 15.5, 16hh and has a big clysedale build, when she just barges into u trying to get away with things it's rather dangerous!

i'm now looking for ANOTHER horse since Midnight is being a cow, so we'll see what I end up with this time! lol!

Cassy. 19 year old black Standardbred mare. Former race horse, broodmare, lesson/pleasure horse, and jumper. Now in semi retirement expecting my first foal. I'v had her for just over 3 years.

Whinny. 4 year old purebred Arabian (Egyptian). I just started her this summer. She's going to be my everything horse. I've had her since she was 3 months old.

Always my baby and heart horse, even though I'm away at college. He's currently working as a therapy horse at a facility I've worked at for years.

16'2 2004 Appaloosa, The Last Hustler. We've done it all together.

He's a massive goofball and is too smart for his own good--keeping him in a stall requires multiple latches AND multiple ties. On several occasions, he has not only removed his fly mask, but BURIED it in his pasture to keep me from finding it again.

He's definitely a one-person horse, and he knows who his person is. He does excellent with the therapy kids though; he knows when he needs to be on his best behavior. Despite his size, his huge personality is great for the kids who are fearful of horses.

Apart from escaping and burying mom's $30 fly masks, Ollie's hobbies include licking my face (for hours, if I'd let him), "smiling" for treats, and attempting to remove my shirt when I turn my back to him. He also has an affinity for zippers and peppermints, as long as he hasn't had mint-flavored dewormer for at least a month.

Here are some photos.

I don't own him (but if you ask anyone, he's mine, if you catch my drift), but I have my dino-nugget, Sunny! Recently, he's been used for vaulting, which he's technically retired from and I haven't been able to ride him because I work on the day that he's used and he comes back super gross and sweaty. But I love my bean. During the winter, my barn has a winter buddy program where you pick a horse and take care of them to keep them nice and clean. Last Saturday, I groomed him for a solid half hour because I couldn't find his bridle and I forgot how heckin sweet he is.

He's an 18 year old, 17.2hh, registered Dutch Warmblood named Sunny Boy, but he's a mix of Trakehner, Selle Francais, Dutch WB/KWPN, Thoroughbred and Westphalian. He's really awkward looking, but I love him. When I first started riding him, he didn't know how to hold himself really and would duck behind the vertical and would break at the 3rd vertebrae (which he still does because I haven't ridden him in a while). I took jumping lessons on him and quickly learned that he hates it because he refused to pick his feet up. My worst fall is when he jumped to the side and I kept going straight and smacked my head on the ground, I was fine, just really shaken up. I would ride him in spurs and with a whip and he still wouldn't go. Then I started teaching him to stretch and lift his back and he got ten times better. One of the really good dressage trainers who is supposed to be really hard to impress complimented me on his stretchy trot and I'm still freaking out over it even though it was a few months ago. One of my friends was riding next to me and was shocked at how much he was lifting and stretching for me. My old trainer would always talk about how much he liked me.

I know that I just bragged about him, but I love him to death and he's taught me so much and I appreciate every moment with him no matter how frustrating. I'm so proud of how much he tries and progresses. He's been there for me when no one else has and I'm forever grateful for him.

I've got a 12 year old 17.7h gelding :) He's simply the best. He's a mix of warmbloods, bred for show jumping and we (my sister and I) are doing just everything with him. Dressage, bit of show jumping too, riding through the woods and our dream is to go to the beach. But for that, he needs to be a little bit more relaxed.
He hasn't had a great life for what we know and what we've seen. But he's with us and will stay with us for the rest of his life :)

I am lucky enough to own 4 pons and look after another 2 as well.

Milla - 7 yo 13.1hh cremello pony mare. I bought her site unseen from a newspaper ad in December 2014. She was supposed to be 16hh and broken in. What I got was a tiny terrified pony who hated humans. With a LOT of work, I convinced her to trust me. I started her under saddle, and while I can ride her, you can tell she doesn't enjoy it. So I started her in harness which she LOVES!

Jet - 15yo 14.3hh black throughbred x gelding. He was given to me as a birthday present in November 2016. He is a special boy - his favourite treat is orange slices, he will lick anything, and he spooks at his own sneezes. He can be difficult to ride at times as he spooks at everything, but he looks after me. Whenever I'm having a bad day, he tries his hardest to make me feel better.

Charli - 7yo 15.3hh chestnut thoroughbred mare. She was raced and then dumped and left to starve. I got her from a rescue group. I've had her since July this year. I've ridden her once, but she was so worried about it all. I've been doing a lot of groundwork with her to overcome her nervousness. I would like to do some low level eventing with her in the future, but if she needs to be a paddock ornament, that's ok too.

Miss Blue - 4yo 17hh Clydesdale mare. I fostered Blue from a heavy horse rescue group with the aim of rehabilitating her and rehoming her. I fell completely head over heels for her and ended up adopting her myself. She was very wary of everything, but she seems to be overcoming her fears and really settling in. She is definitely a part of my little herd now. I am in the process of starting her under saddle at the moment and she is taking everything in her stride. I'd like to do mounted archery with her one day. I'm also planning on starting her in harness as well.

Bea - 4yo 16.2hh grey stock horse x clydesdale mare. I started her under saddle for a friend last year and for some reason, she's still here. She's a lovely horse but very intimidating with her size. I haven't put a lot of work into her recently as I've been focusing on my own pons.

Knight - 8yo 15.1hh grey thoroughbred x gelding. He actually belongs to my sister, but she's living interstate at the moment. He was given to her as a gift. Tbh I think he's gonna be more trouble than its worth, but my sister absolutely adores him. He's lovely on the ground, but he's learnt that bucking his rider off gets him out of doing work. Somehow I've got to fix that so he doesn't hurt my sister.

edit: names should be links to photos. For some reason the photos wouldn't display on here.
