Time for the Reindeer Games. The yearlings nervously meet up to learn how to fly and train to be the next generation of Santa’s reindeer.

Forrest looked up at his father. “Do I really have to go?” he asked. “Yes, Forrest,” Dasher replied. “It’s your big chance to show Santa you’ve got what it takes to be on his team.”  “It’s time for you to make some other friends,” his mother added, “There will be plenty of yearlings there who are also in your shoes.” Forrest nodded. “Now go make us proud son!” Dasher said, and nudged him out of their cave into the snow.

Nutmeg walked to the edge of her cave and halted. The snow glistened pearly white, untouched by the hooves of other reindeer. Today was the day she had to make her choice. She could either stay in her cave, safe from the words of others, but alone, or she could go to the Reindeer Games and make friends. However, there was the risk of being hurt by the other yearlings' words, just as she had been her whole life. Nutmeg stepped back and little, but stopped. Today was going to be the day she went out unafraid, and made herself fit in. With a determined expression, Nutmeg left the safety of her cave and marched into the gleaming snow. Today, she would change.

Spice jogged through the snow, not batting an eye as she occasionally startled birds and rabbits. "Hurry up, brother! We don't wanna be late!" she called, looking back at the smaller deer following her.
Mistle eyed his feet warily as he slowly trudged through the thick white sludge. "Why exactly do you want to be first again?" he muttered, tripping over a stray ornament.
"'Comet waits for nothing. He makes everyone proud and isn't scared of a challenge. He dreams big and never fears'," his sister responded, reciting what their father often said.
"Comet also talks about himself in third person," Mistle retorted, glancing at his sister in exasperation.

Forrest trotted over to Comet and a group of yearlings. He stood shyly at the edge of the group, unsure how to approach the other reindeer.

(your post made me remember that Comet was like their gym coach lol... I gotta rewatch all the Christmas movies)
(also the "shy-looking colt" that Mistle ends up introducing himself to is Forrest, for clarification)

Spotting her father, Spice broke into a run. "Hi dad!" she exclaimed, skidding to a stop and spraying the surrounding deer with snow. Most of them were bigger than her, but she held her head high and didn't cower under their questioning looks. Her horns were as big as theirs. And I'm probably faster than them, too, she thought smugly. The yearlings didn't faze her. She did have a few doubts about flying though, but she kept them to herself.
Mistle shook his head at his heedless sister. Self-conscious around the older reindeer, he discretely made his way over to another sky-looking colt that looked to be around his age. "...I'm Mistle," he said, after taking a minute or so to work up the courage.

Nutmeg joined the group of yearlings. Relieved, she realized that she wasn't the only one who was nervous. Everyone else looked just as nervous as she felt. Well, except for one. A filly stood proudly and unafraid. If she was nervous, she was quite good at keeping it to herself. Should I talk to someone? Nutmeg thought to herself. She looked around for someone who looked friendly enough to talk to, but stayed where she was.

Forrest turned to the other young buck. “Hi Mistle, I’m Forrest. Are you ready for the Games?” Forrest asked. “I’m pretty nervous about flying,” he admitted.

"I'm nervous too," Mistle admitted. He shivered as a gust of wind dusted his fur with snow. The task of impressing everyone looked more daunting now than ever, considering one measly wind gust chilled him to his bones.
